Over 10 miles of new rail was laid across more than 41,000 sleepers as part of the work, which has also saw signalling upgraded and 19 bridges on the line either refurbished or replaced. This worked allowed for the delivery of enhanced commuter services into each city and provided capacity for the construction of two new stations. Kintore opened October 2020 and Inverness Airport is due to open in 2022.

Kintore Station
Kintore station -re-opened on Scotland’s Railway after an absence of 56 years.
Funded by Transport Scotland, Aberdeenshire Council and Nestrans, the £15 million station was built by Network Rail and has fully accessible, step-free access between platforms via a footbridge with lifts.
The station, which will be managed by ScotRail, has the largest electric vehicle charging location in the north east of Scotland, with 24 of the 168 spaces at the new transport hub fitted with charging points.

The Inverness Airport Train Station project is due to commence summer 2021 and finishing December 2022. It will have,
