We’re working on a major four-year package of upgrades to modernise 1980s track and signalling on the lines into London Victoria station.

The installation of the new equipment will see signalling control of the area moving from the Victoria Area Signalling Centre to our new state-of-the-art centre Three Bridges Rail Operating Centre.
The first phase of work, to take place at weekends between London Victoria, Clapham Junction and Balham, and the West London Lines from Clapham to Shepherds Bush, got full underway in 2021 and will continue until after Christmas 2022.

Work on this phase of the project is now underway and involves:
- Replacement of all signalling equipment in the Clapham and Balham areas, and lines into London Victoria.
- Relocation of signalling control for the area from Clapham, to the state-of-the-art Three Bridges Rail Operating Centre (TBROC).
- Upgrade of track at key junctions surrounding Clapham and Balham with new, more reliable equipment.

Upgrades to track and signalling on other South London lines will follow:

What is the passenger impact?
Preparation work for the project has been ongoing for several years. The more visible elements of the project which will require access to track are now underway.

On the following dates, no trains will run between Victoria-East Croydon. Most trains will be diverted to London Bridge. Rail tickets will be accepted on London Underground services between London Victoria, London Bridge and Balham, and on London Buses between Balham and Streatham Hill. Tickets will also be valid on South Western Railway services between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo. A limited rail replacement bus service will run between East Croydon and Clapham Junction for local journeys.
