What you’ll be doing

On our flexible rotational programme, you’ll spend time in several teams within the IT department. Our work affects the whole organisation, meaning you’ll be partnering with colleagues across all our business functions; this could include Routes Businesses, HR, Finance or Rail Services.

Whether completing data analysis, working with innovative technologies and applications such as Digital Railway traffic management, or taking a leading role in the delivery of a significant business change initiative, you’ll always be facing new and exciting challenges. You can expect to experience a variety of roles across the department, such as project management, service management, information systems strategy, and application support. Typical responsibilities include; supporting special projects for senior leaders, preparing and delivering internal presentations and reports, managing risks and issues, and preparing month-end financial reports. You may also get the chance to provide leadership to small project teams.

Not only that, you will also experience several away days on the scheme such as visiting:

  • A site and depot
  • A signalling centre
  • Network Rail's office in York (1 day visit)
  • London Euston (to see development of HS2)
  • Birmingham New Street.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to achieve a minimum of 2:2 in your degree.

What professional qualifications could you gain?

APM Project Management qualification or Prince2 IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

What opportunities are available at the end of the scheme?

Previous graduates have gone on to achieve internal promotion to senior roles and undertake further professional qualifications supported by the business.

Why you should choose this scheme

这是一个高度灵活但结构方案enables you to drive your own learning. The scheme manager is responsible for setting up your first rotational placement, but thereafter it’s up to you. You choose which functions you’d like to experience and tailor your programme to suit your skills, strengths and interests. The scheme manager will also support you with continuous coaching through face-to-face meetings.

To help you gain a broader insight to our organisation, you can choose to spend one of your placements working in a function outside of IT.
