What you’ll be doing
面对一个variety of unique and exciting mechanical engineering challenges, you’ll develop skills in a range of specialisms – from power distribution, plant, traction and rolling stock to asset management and infrastructure engineering. Through your four rotational placements you’ll gain a broad perspective of the railway and learn all about the processes, products and systems that make it function.
You might be involved with rejuvenating and servicing current infrastructure, or delivering ambitious improvements to track equipment, signalling and overhead lines to improve passenger comfort and safety.
When applying for our mechanical engineering scheme, you will have the option to also be considered for our fleet programme. The Fleet programme runs separately to our mechanical scheme and will follow its own set of rotational placements.
With the large-scale engineering upgrades and maintenance being carried out across our network, we require a variety of different vehicles to support the delivery of this diverse activity. The Fleet programme will give you the opportunity to manage engineering assurance activities to ensure safety and reliability across our network. As part of our fleet scheme you could be responsible for carrying out engineering change processes and supporting the development of railway vehicle modifications. In addition to this, there will be an opportunity to take on an external placement with our Train Operating Companies to gain insight and an understanding of the delivery of passenger trains

What professional qualifications could you gain?

The focus of the scheme is to provide a platform of knowledge to build upon in future positions to enable efficient application at either Chartered Engineer (CENG) or Incorporated (IENG).

- In the first 4 weeks of your employment we will help you to register with either the IET, IMechE or ICE, the cost of this can be reclaimed via the Network Rail expenses policy.

What opportunities are available at the end of the scheme?
