Electrification
As part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, we’re creating capacity for more, longer trains. This means up to 50% more seats per hour during peak times between Bedford and Corby and a more comfortable journey for you.
More Seats
As part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, we’re lengthening trains to add up to 50% more seats per hour during peak times. All of which means a more comfortable journey for you.
Station upgrade projects
We are carrying out improvement works at Kettering and Wellingborough station as part of the theMidland Main Line upgrade.
The work started in Spring 2019 and includes extending and trimming back platform canopies to accommodate electrified overhead wires.
Lineside neighbours
As part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, we’re electrifying the track so that quieter, more environmentally-friendly trains can run through your neighbourhood.
Longer platforms
As part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, we’re extending station platforms at Bedford, Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby. Longer platforms mean longer trains and more seats for you on board.
Freight
As part of our Railway Upgrade Plan, we’re increasing freight capacity across the region. That means less lorries on the roads, a boost for freight and the local economy.

You can look forward to a wide range of benefits as part of the Midland Main Line upgrade including more seats, quieter trains, and on the whole a more reliable and quicker service for both passengers and lineside neighbours.
